We have been given our first look at ‘Wonka’, which is a prequel to Roald Dahl’s treasured Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Timothee Chalamet stars as a youthful version of Willy Wonka before the days of the chocolate factory. The trailer shows Wonka in his travels, where he spends seven years perfecting his craft.

According to IMDB, “The story will focus specifically on a young Willy Wonka and how he met the Oompa Loompas on one of his earliest adventures.”

Director Paul King, who also was behind the two Paddington movies, has praised Chalamet’s performance of the famous character saying, “I think what’s so remarkable about his performance is not only that he is funny and mischievous and quite mysterious, as well – just like the Willy Wonka that people will know – but also, he brings such heart to the role and he’s a brilliant actor,” King said to People. “He’s incredibly emotionally intelligent and can bring a great deal of emotional truth to the role.”

King also gave us a bit of insider info on what to expect out of the film when he explained that this rendition of Willy Wonka is a celebration of “old-time musicals” as the film features “a couple of really big numbers”.

Alongside Chalamet, Wonka has a star-studded cast that includes big names like Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, and even Hugh Grant as a CGI Oompa Loompa!
