Who would’ve thought the kid from High School Musical would end up living Down Under in a house made almost entirely from hemp?
But that’s exactly what Zac Efron is doing, with the Hollywood star building an ambitious eco-friendly home in northern NSW that’s unlike just about anything we’ve seen before.
Not Your Average Celebrity Mansion
Efron has teamed up with Australian sustainability expert Joost Bakker to create what’s being called “FutureCave”. A sprawling property tucked away in the rainforest near Byron Bay.
Forget marble floors and gold-plated taps. This place is all about sustainability, with hemp set to be used throughout the build, including the walls, insulation, joinery, curtains and even the mattress he’ll sleep on.
Built For Nature Lovers
The property will feature six separate bedroom pods connected by outdoor walkways, rooftop gardens and spectacular views of the surrounding rainforest.
Efron has previously spoken about how much he enjoys spending time in Australia, and the secluded retreat looks like the perfect place to escape the spotlight between movie roles.
Why Hemp?
Hemp is quickly becoming a favourite building material thanks to its durability and lower environmental impact compared to many traditional construction products.
Safe to say, this is a long way from East High.
