A Whyalla veterinarian has had an out-of-this-world experience – after his car was apparently struck by a meteorite on the Augusta Highway.
Andrew Melville-Smith was driving north of Port Germein on 19 October, when his car was rocked by a deafening explosion, showering glass fragments inside.
Thankfully the self-driving car continued as normal and the 71-year-old wasn’t injured in the incident

The SA Museum is investigating the rare event, which experts believe it could potentially be a world-first meteorite strike on a moving vehicle.
