Whyalla City Council is taking action to recover unpaid rates by auctioning off nearly 20 properties this Friday.
These properties, located across Whyalla, include a range of real estate, such as an industrial building on a two-acre property, a three-bedroom duplex, factories, vacant lots, and overgrown residential properties.
The Council has been making efforts for years to contact the owners and establish payment plans, but these attempts have been unsuccessful.
Collectively, the property owners owe a total of $458,000 in unpaid rates, which represents approximately 2% of the Council’s annual rates revenue.
Some property owners have not paid rates for over a decade.
The total capital value of all the properties scheduled for auction is $1.6 million.
The Auction starts at 10am this Friday at the Westland Hotel, Whyalla Norrie.
