Several property in the Northern Areas Council, have accumulated significant amounts of unpaid council rates, with some debts dating back nearly 17 years.
The total debt owed by five ratepayers amounts to almost $50,000, including legal fees.
Among the outstanding debts, one Gladstone resident owes more than $25,000 since September 2016. The remaining debts range between $2,800 and $4,700.

None of the properties with outstanding debts are residential. They include vacant land and an abandoned home.
The council has taken action by advertising the unpaid rates and legal fees, seeking resolution and payment from the concerned property owners.
