The State government is looking to address South Australia’s rental crisis with significant reforms to tenancy laws.
With the vacancy rate below 1%, the bill introduced to Parliament seeks to improve tenant security while respecting landlord rights.
Key changes include prescribed termination grounds, extending notice periods to end a tenancy from 28 to 60 days, allowing pets in rentals with reasonable conditions, and additional support for domestic violence victims.
The government will also establish a tenant advocacy service that looks to educate and inform tenants and advise and support them to resolve tenancy issues.
