In a bid to save more lives, South Australia has opened up its GoodSAM system to the public.

Now, anyone in the state with first aid training can register for smartphone notifications about nearby cardiac emergencies.

The GoodSAM app springs into action within seconds of a Triple Zero (000) call, alerting registered responders to a person in cardiac arrest.

They can accept the call and rush to the scene to provide emergency care while an ambulance is on the way.

This expansion follows the success of the system since its launch in December.

Already, two lives have been saved thanks to rapid GoodSAM responses, including a toddler who went into cardiac arrest after an accident on the Yorke Peninsula.

GoodSAM remains a complementary tool to South Australia’s ambulance services, ensuring that help arrives swiftly in critical situations.
