The State Government is focused on boosting apprentice and traineeship numbers in areas with skill shortages.
‘Skilled. Thriving. Connected.’ will ensure South Australians have the skills needed for secure careers, and industry has access to a highly adept workforce.
It follows the signing of the five-year National Skills Agreement by the Malinauskas Government, delivering a $2.3 billion investment in skills for South Australia.
Training and Skills Minister Blair Boyer says the new policy, unveiled yesterday, 4 March, will change things up.
“The big projects that are before us here in South Australia now like AUKAS, and hydrogen, and a three-year-old pre-school, and a whole range of great opportunities, we know that one of the biggest barriers to us is actually having the skilled workforce we need to deliver them,” Minister Boyer says.
The State Government will release the Jobs and Skills Outlook for 2024 in the next few months, outlining the state’s needs and the plans to meet them.
This announcement comes not long after Premier Peter Malinauskas announced plans to construct five technical colleges across the state, with Port Augusta Technical College set to open in 2025.
