Locals still have the opportunity to contribute to the running of local government elections.

The review into council elections has so far received suggestions including Q&A’s with mayors and elected members, and a change in the frequency of elections.

However, two ideas are really gaining momentum.

“Over 50 per cent say we should be having compulsory voting… and just about half are saying the terms should be limited to two or three terms at a time to give somebody else an opportunity.”

Outcomes from the review will be published mid-year.
