The state government has pledged to extend its lifting fee subsidy for wheelchair accessible cabs to regional areas after a 25-year disparity.
This commitment, a first for regional operators, follows advocacy from Whyalla-based Des’s Cabs, who says operational losses exceed $100,000 in buying and converting an access taxi.
Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis had recognised the gap and vowed to extend the subsidy, highlighting the crucial role played by regional access cabs.
