Former Police Commissioner Graham Ashton Chosen to Lead Inquiry Into SA’s Greyhound Racing Industry

Former Victorian Police Commissioner Graham Ashton has been chosen by the State Government to lead an inquiry into South Australia’s greyhound racing industry.

Ashton’s assessment will cover the industry’s operations, culture, governance, and practices, alongside the effectiveness of the existing regulatory model and its interplay with industry dynamics.

Having served as Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police from 2015 to 2020, Ashton brings extensive policing experience, including roles in tackling drug trafficking, organized crime, and corruption.

The inquiry follows recent footage suggesting greyhound mistreatment on an SA property.

It aims to engage racing and animal welfare stakeholders, review regulatory frameworks, and explore industry regulation and integrity models.

A final report is expected by November 30th.
