In response to ongoing concerns over anti-social behaviour linked to excessive alcohol consumption, Coober Pedy has initiated a three-month trial for stricter liquor restrictions, on top of current restrictions.
The additional amendments, enforced by the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner, involve prohibiting early morning sales of takeaway alcohol and limiting purchases to one person per day within existing limits.
These measures, modelled after successful strategies in Port Augusta, aim to address issues like intoxication by lunchtime.
The trial seeks to evaluate the impact and gather feedback from stakeholders before deciding on the next steps.
