South Australia’s cancelled Whyalla hydrogen project could cost taxpayers up to $500 million, according to the state’s Auditor-General.

Andrew Blaskett told a parlimentary committee yesterday that $285 million has already been spent, with another $125 million committed and more than $87 million in ongoing liabilities.

The Opposition has slammed the project as a ‘once-in-a-generation waste’, while the State Government insists most costs will be recovered through the sale of four 50-megawatt turbines.
