A Father and Son Have Died After a Plane Crash Near Crystal Brook

After a light plane struck power lines and crashed in a field at Merriton on Sunday afternoon, the two on board have been identified.

24-year-old passenger Charlie Mumford and his father, pilot Ben Mumford were aboard the Cessna plane, piloted by 50-year-old Mr. Mumford, when it struck power lines near Merriton, close to Crystal Brook.

Tragically, Charlie lost his life at the scene, while his father was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A Good Samaritan who attempted to assist the victims suffered burns to their hands and arms and required hospitalization.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has made a public appeal for witnesses and any available video footage of the aircraft’s flight to aid in their investigation.
