Winter isn’t done with us just yet.
A powerful Antarctic cold front is set to sweep across southern and eastern Australia this weekend, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, hail, snow and some of the coldest temperatures of the season.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the icy change will first hit Western Australia before moving across South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and parts of southern Queensland from Saturday into Monday.
Snowfall and Strong Winds
Snow is expected to fall across the Australian Alps, with some ski resorts tipped to receive their biggest snowfall of the season so far. Lower-elevation areas could also see flurries, while strong winds and hail are possible in several regions.
The wild weather may also create hazardous driving conditions, with authorities urging motorists to take extra care if travelling through alpine or exposed areas. Coastal communities are also being warned to prepare for rough surf and damaging wind gusts.
