Police later attended the registered owners’ address, with the driver identified and arrested.

The 38-year-old man allegedly provided a positive breath test reading of 0.196 – almost four times the legal limit.

He was charged with excessive speed, driving in a dangerous manner to escape police pursuit, drink driving and failing to answer questions.

The car was also impounded and the driver lost his licence for 12 months.

He’s been granted bail to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court at a later date.
