The first results of the solar thermal power plant feasibility study have been announced and it's good news for Alinta.
The company has decided a stand-alone solar-thermal power plant is a technically feasible option to redevelop Port Augusta's coal-fired power station.
They will focus on the commercial feasibility of building a field of mirrors to concentrate sunlight for a central receiver.
The other alternative was a hybrid solar and coal plant but
Alinta says it has assessed the technological risks of hybrid plants and considers them too risky.
The next stage of the study will mean the investigation of building costs.
That study is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
