A man has died at a Central Queensland mine over the weekend.
It is understood the 33-year-old suffered critical injuries after he became trapped in machinery at Curragh Coal Mine in Blackwater on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities confirmed he could not be saved.
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating the death, while the CFMEU is also set to conduct an independent investigation.
CFMEU Mining and Energy Queensland President Stephen Smyth said the death of that mineworker is a tragic start to 2020.
He said, "The whole mining community would be shocked and saddened by the news, which comes on the heels of five deaths in Queensland coal mines last year".
“Our hearts go out to family, friends and loved ones,” said Mr Smyth.
“This is a terrible start to 2020. The industry must redouble efforts to end the tragic loss of life in our mines.”
CFMEU Industry Safety and Health Representatives are on site at Curragh and will conduct their own thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
