Search crews have resumed the hunt for a vintage plane that vanished off the Gold Coast amid reports a piece of debris may have been found near South Stradbroke Island.
There are grave fears for the pilot and his passenger who failed to return from a scenic flight on Wednesday.
The Soviet era Yak 52 aircraft set off on a scenic flight at 10am, and was spotted flying over South Stradbroke Island about half an hour later but then vanished.
Sea, air and land searches resumed at first light on Thursday.
Authorities don't yet know if the large piece of metal found near the Jumpinpin channel, which separates North Stradbroke Island and South Stradbroke Island, is from the aircraft.
AAP has sought comment from the Australian Marine Safety Authority, which is coordinating the search effort.
