Two people are on the run after a man was shot in the head and killed in Sydney's inner west.
NSW Police found the man's body in the middle of a suburban street at Forest Lodge on Friday afternoon, and a weapon was located nearby.
A witness called police before 1pm saying the victim - believed to be in his late 20s - was staggering down the street, a police officer at the scene told AAP.
The man's body was subsequently found near the intersection of Hereford Street and Minogue Crescent. The area has been cordoned off and there's a large police presence at the crime scene.
NSW Police say they are looking for two people - a man and a woman.
Officers stormed into a nearby apartment about 2.30pm but didn't appear to find anything.
Philippe, who has lived at the intersection for more than seven years, said it was usually a very peaceful neighbourhood.
"I thought when I saw the helicopter it was a hit and run," he told AAP.
There was a stabbing nearby a few weeks ago, Philippe added, but violence was rare in the area.
Students at nearby Forest Lodge Public School were out at a sports carnival at the time of the shooting.
Arrangements have been made for them to be taken to Glebe Public School to be picked up, a NSW education department spokesman told AAP.
