The death of a roof plumber who plunged six metres onto concrete while working at the King Island Airport was avoidable had basic safety measures been taken, a coroner says.

Burnie father-of-one Kurt Joshua Gorrie, 28, died in December 2014 from multiple head injuries after falling while not wearing a safety harness, coroner Simon Cooper said in his findings published on Friday.

"Had even the most simple and obvious safety precautions been taken then he would have returned home to his partner and young daughter," the coroner wrote.
