Port Augusta City Council says they have made the difficult decision to cancel the Australia Day events at Gladstone Square, as COVID cases in the region continue to grow.
In a statement, the council says they’re working towards hosting a smaller, alternate function for Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremonies.
The council said they must do what is necessary to mitigate the spread of the virus, in an effort to reduce the spread amongst residents of the local community.
Australia Day celebrations are being encouraged by the council, on the basis they’re consistent with COVID-19 advice.
