The Red Cross Lifeblood Donor Centre will be set up at Central Oval in Port Augusta this week, with the donor services calling for assistance in boosting donation numbers.

Lifeblood announced they required a further 7000 people to donate before the end of this week with borders reopening and cancellations and no-shows continuing to rise.

Only nine per cent of Australians have O-Negative blood, but it makes up 16 per cent of orders from hospitals because it saves lives in emergencies.

At present there are one thousand fewer active O-Negative donors heading through donor centres compared to this time last year.

The mobile centre will be in Port Augusta from today through to Friday.
