The town of Brinkworth is on its way to purchasing a community bus to help combat social isolation while providing public transport, thanks to a $87,600 grant.
The Brinkworth Management Committee received the funding through the Tackling Tough Times Together grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
Following the closure of the town café in 2019, the community lost a meeting place causing some isolation and the bus is hoped to connect people.
The bus will be used to transport residents to shops and medical appointments, as well as for sporting groups and school excursions.
The committee were able to send 14 letters of support for the bus to accompany their grant application, including one from Member for Frome, Geoff Brock.
Wakefield Regional Council contributed a further $2500 to the bus, the committee have just $500 left to raise, which they hope to do with activities such as barbecues.
The bus will not arrive in the town until next year, due to a six-month wait based on the shortage of vehicles in the country caused by Covid-19 supply chain disruptions.
