Following the closure of yet another rural GP clinic in Peterborough in recent weeks, the federal government has announced they will increase the amount doctors are paid in regional areas.

In a bid to fix the GP shortage in various parts of the country, the government is expected to budget 65 million dollars towards more than 10 thousand rural GPs.

Regional GPs currently receive Medicare incentives to bulk bill patients, however that will change from 2022, with the introduction of higher salaries for more remote doctors.
