Woylies Find Home on YP

local news

100 native Australian Woylies are set to find a new home in the Yorke Peninsula, almost a century after they disappeared from the area.

Woylies once inhabited more than 60 per cent of mainland Australia, but are now only found in pockets of WA and some South Australian islands.

As well as taking a vital step towards restoring local ecosystems, the Woylies are also expected to boost tourism and improve agricultural productivity.

The first relocation is set to take place in winter 2021, and is the first of four native species to be reintroduced to the area under the program.
