To celebrate 100 years since the formation of the RAAF, today fly-overs of local towns will take place as part of the celebrations.

A P-8A Poseidon will be flying over the old airfield in Port Pirie, along with the township at 11.30am this morning, then Woomera Airfield and village at 12.05pm, concluding it's fly-overs by heading to the Yorke Peninsula for a fly-over of the Moonta Township at 12.45pm.

RAAF Group Captain, Greg Weller says our area has played an important role the Airforce operations, acknowledging Port Pirie's role as a major airbase during World War 2.

The significant day will also be marked by a Commemorative Service in Adelaide, and fly-overs of locations across the city as well.
