Works have begun for the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication. The Joy Baluch Bridge crosses the Spencer Gulf between Port Augusta and Port Augusta West. The bridge carries Highway 1 and is a major player on both the east-west and north-south road routes in Australia. The reconfiguration of the existing bridge will provide two lanes for traffic as well as a pedestrian and cycle path for both east and westbound movements.
On January 11th 2021 marine piling commenced which is the first major step in getting the structure completed. Specialist marine equipment will drive the piles up to a depth of approximately 30 metres into the seabed by applying blows from a heavy hammer attached to a crane. The marine piling is said to be completed by mid-2021 with work happening Monday to Sunday, weather permitting. Some noise and vibration disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the works will be managed to minimise disruption to nearby businesses and residents as much as practically possible.
The Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication is said to be finished by 2022.
