Crystal Brook’s Main Street Improvements

WORK

Crystal Brooks’ Bowman Street is about to get a new look, following extensive community consultation, improvement works have now commenced.

The street will see the installation of new bike racks and seating in front of the Library as well as the installation of a new shelter and street furniture.

The garden beds will also be irrigated and replanted with up-lighting provided to highlight significant trees.

The transformation has been made possible with funding from Council’s Capital Works program, together with funding sourced from the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program Funding Round 2 and the State Government’s Places for People program.

A full list of upgrades can be seen below:

  • Trenching for the underground power from the toilet block at Adelaide Square to the end of the central median at Brandis Street.
  • Trenching for the underground water across Brandis Street between Vault 35 and Reflections.
  • New bike racks have already been installed adjacent to the Library and Foodland.
  • New seating at the front of the Library – the existing garden beds will be cut down, with recycled timber slats installed to create seating.
  • Removal of three pepper trees which have been identified by an arborist as being in poor condition.
  • Installation of a new shelter for the centre median, installation of new street furniture and bollards.
  • The garden beds will be irrigated and replanted with plants and shrubs. Uplighting will be provided to highlight the significant trees.
  • The kerb and gutter will be repaired and the road and parking areas resealed as part of the 2020/21 capital budget.

Council have also stated that they will work with the Crystal Brook Community Association to develop guidelines for improvements to shopfronts and verandas as part of Round 2 of the Drought Communities Program, which is currently pending approval.

It is expected that a coloured plan showing the scope of works and key features for the Bowman Street Improvements will announced by Council in the near future.
