Port Augusta Council have announced they will be consulting with the community in regards to a proposed change to how rates are determined in the city.
In response to what has been quoted by Port Augusta Council as a “long standing community demand’ for the change and review of what is considered an outdated and complex system”, Council have agreed to undertake a Formal Consultation Process.
In a recent Facebook post Mayor Brett Benbow said, “It is important to note that the Council is not looking to increase the total rates collected, which are determined in accordance with the long-term financial plan. The change is in relation the method and formula used to divide the total rates ‘pie’ between all rate payers.”
The formal consultation process is anticipated to be held in August.
