Port Augusta City Council will welcome 20 new citizens this Australia Day.
Migrants from nine countries, including Britain, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Thailand and Ireland, will become Australian citizens at the Port Augusta Australia Day ceremony this Sunday.
Close to 20,000 people are set to become citizens across the country at various councils with Mayor Brett Benbow stating that, “The ceremony is an opportunity for all Australians, to come together to acknowledge what’s great about being Australian”.
He went on to say, “There is no greater privilege than our citizenship. It’s a life-long commitment to Australia’s values of freedom, democracy, equality and respect.”
The ceremony will take place at Gladstone Square from 7:30am with a free community breakfast and entertainment to follow.
