Snapper fishing is currently banned in the Spencer Gulf in an effort to secure the long-term future of the species, strengthening numbers for the benefit of all South Australians.
Despite the ban, recreational fishers hoping to catch a Snapper this season can enter into the ballot for a ‘Snapper Tag’. Without a Tag you cannot fish for snapper in the South East.
A ballot system will be used to allocate a limited number of tags, which will be randomly drawn and will become active for use as of February 1st.
Applications will close January 19th with the Snapper ban set to stay in place until January of 2023.
