Port Augusta’s City Council’s Central Oval turf upgrade project is on track and meeting budget guidelines.
Both Sub-Surface drainage and irrigation works have commenced and are set to be completed soon. Importation of sand has also commenced, which will assist with the growing function of the laid turf.
Mr Daryl Sellar, from Living Turf, is pleased with the projects progress, with Council confirming they will be monitoring the quality of the turf with the assistance of Mr Sellar.
Locals can expect increased traffic, with heavy vehicles entering and exiting the oval throughout December, with the new turf due to be laid mid-January, allowing the Central Oval to be used for the upcoming 2020 sporting season.
Port Augusta Council have said, “The upgrade of the oval will enable higher level sporting events to be hosted including SANFL, AFL JLT (Country Round) games. Port Augusta will also be in a position to attract the AFLW and Women’s Soccer league to showcase female sports in the region.”
“Once completed, the redeveloped surface will provide the Port Augusta community with an asset that will be suitable for local, regional and national sport of all standards, as well as other non-sport community events, regardless of weather.”
