Port Augusta City Council was one of ten projects to receive over $100,000 dollars from the states Regional Growth Fund.
The funding is set to assist in the upgrade of Port Augusta’s infrastructure around the foreshore and CBD, in an effort to enhance the city’s tourism and local economy.
A number of upgrades have been proposed such as signage upgrades and the installation of shade shelters and seating, with the project set to promote foot traffic, whilst enhancing the tourists overall experience.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone stated, "The passion and innovation in our state's businesses and communities shines through in these projects, which demonstrate a range of ideas that will genuinely provide a boost for the economy in our regions."
“With the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication project design having upgraded pedestrian access navigated towards the foreshore area, there will now be new shelters and seating installed for the community to enjoy”. Port Augusta City Council Chief Executive Officer Mr John Banks stated.
Port Augutsa Council have stated, "Work has commenced, we are awaiting tender process conclusion and development approval. The community can expect to see work on site in early 2020."
