Port Pirie police have arrested a man following the investigation of a theft and assault at a local jewellery store.
Last week a man entered a jeweller on Norman Street and allegedly stole six rings from a display case before running off.
The store owner followed the man down the street where the suspect has eventually returned three of the rings.
It has been alleged the suspect then became aggressive and attempted to assault the store owner but was held back by another man known to the suspect.
The suspect left the area however a short time later, he was caught shoplifting from a nearby store. The man had attempted to pay for the stolen item using two of the stolen rings.
After extensive inquiries and information provided by the public, a 28-year-old Port Pirie man was arrested over the incident.
He was charged with theft and assault and appeared in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court over the weekend where he was remanded in custody.
