The Yorke Peninsula and Port Augusta shone at the Regional Showcase Awards night at Maggie Beer’s Farm – The Eatery in the Barossa.
The Regional Showcase is a long-running program that recognises the contribution regional South Australia makes to the state’s economy.
The Community Award was taken out by Yorke Peninsula trio ‘The Fat Farmers’
The trio aims to encourage farmers to take better care of their physical and mental health. The Fat Farmers initiative recognises that farming is a tough life and, for some, can be isolating. The cheekily named initiative is becoming an increasingly popular avenue for farmers to exercise together, socialise and connect.
Honourable mentions were made to Port Augusta’s desert botanic garden in the People’s Choice category.
Regional South Australia covers just 29 per cent of the population yet contributes about $25 billion to the economy annually.
Over 3000 votes were cast for the People’s Choice Award alone, with the response indicating great success for Regional SA.
