The Whyalla Visitor and Information Centre precinct demolitions have begun.
The old ‘B Block’ building has significant asbestos and termite damage within the structure, which is why council has chosen to demolish rather than restore the building.
According to council, CEO Chris Cowley, the building hasn’t been used for a long time and there has been no interest by the community in its use.
Other buildings in the Tanderra Craft Village are in significantly better condition and could benefit from some of the materials from ‘B’ Block for simple and more cost-effective renovations.
Removal of asbestos is commencing today, with the rest of the demolition taking place in the second week of October.
