The Whyalla Royal Flying Doctor Service Support Group has launched two new community campaigns to help their 2019/20 fundraising plan.
The first initiative “Spreading the Word” aims to provide support group members as guest speakers to interested organisations.
While the second initiative will see the group offer a “Have BBQ Will Travel” service by using its barbecue trailer and volunteers to attend and cook at private and corporate functions.
Whyalla Support Group President Frank Curtis said the service is of vital importance to Whyalla for essential aeromedical flights to Adelaide.
“The Royal Flying Doctor’s slogan is to reach the farthest corner with the finest care, so if we can reach a target of and exceed last years $23,000, I think that’s quite possible,” he said.
“Whyalla is the busiest SA regional airport for RFDS landings with around 550 urgent transfers between Whyalla and Adelaide every year for specialist and higher-level care."
