People who assault emergency services workers will now face even bigger penalties after legislation was passed earlier this week.
The new amendment will make injuring an emergency worker a category 1 offence under the Sentencing Act 1991.
Premier Steven Marshall says “our emergency service workers put their lives on the line to keep us safe. They’re not punching bags.”
The Bill will also provide a very narrow exception for cases involving offenders with a mental or cognitive impairment.
