Snapper Survival Rate on the Line

fishing 1South Australian snapper numbers have dropped to unsustainable levels according to the latest data from S.A. Research and Development Institute.

They suggest immediate action is needed by recreational and professional fishers in the next 6 months to increase the numbers, especially in the Spencer Gulf.

Studies completed last year show snapper’s biomass has declined by over 20% across the entire Spencer Gulf since 2014.

South Australian Minister for Primary Industries Tim Whetstone says the government is looking at a number of options to reach sustainable snapper stocks, including further restrictions for the upcoming summer.

Primary Industries and Regions SA is currently reviewing the management of the state's snapper fishery with the commercial, charter and recreational sectors.
