The Yorke Peninsula Council will host the inaugural Yorkes Community Food Fair this weekend as a part of the Council’s goal of improving the health and overall wellbeing of the community.
The Council has been working in partnership with Flinders University towards a healthier Yorke Peninsula for the past two years.
Several student dieticians have completed work placements at Council, researching local produce and services that are currently available, as well as identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
A food fair was selected as a result of research and consultation with locals to address issues within the community.
The Yorkes Community Food Fair will feature local produce stalls and tastings, cooking demonstrations, active lifestyle information, activities and free health advice.
The day will also include plenty of activities and entertainment for the kids with a special visit from dirtgirl and scrapboy from the popular ABC Kid’s shows dirtgirlworld and Get Grubby TV, which explore health and sustainability with young children. Join them as they check out the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle), loving leftovers, getting into composting and fresh food feasting!
For a day of delicious food and fun come along to the Minlaton Town Hall, March 31, from 10am to 4pm, and keep an eye on this website as more information becomes available.
