Local MP’s are pledging their support for the Port Augusta Wharf after the council was informed that the required repairs would cost an estimated $11 million.
Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey says the Port Augusta Wharf is an iconic and essential part of Port Augusta’s infrastructure and needs to be preserved.
He says the wharf is heritage-listed, and has played an important role in the town’s history.
The council is seeking firm costings and Mr Ramsey will work with Mayor Brett Benbow and State Member Dan Van Holst Pellekaan.
Some sections of the Wharf have been fenced off after an assessment deemed the structure to be a major safety risk.
