15 volunteers from SA Ambulance Service’s across the state will take part in driver training today in Clare.
The group will be able to drive an ambulance and support clinicians within just seven training days before moving on to develop their skills gradually.
The Ambulance Assist role was introduced in 2018.
Acting Director of Country Operations Andrew Thomas says the additional resources will significantly boost volunteer ambulance officers in regional areas.
$3.6 million was injected into SAAS volunteer training in September last year to enable further training for those in remote, rural and fringe ambulance stations.
The ambulance service is also calling for more volunteers across the state in the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula.
