A man has been arrested after he took a late night dip trying to evade police in Port Augusta.
On Tuesday night Port Augusta police were called Tassie Street after man had kicked in a storage room door of the local tavern and stole two cartons of beer.
The suspect made his way to the foreshore as patrols followed.
The man dumped the beer and jumped into the water swimming away from the patrol.
After several minutes of negotiating with the man who refused to leave the water, he eventually made his way back to the beach where he was arrested.
The 29-year-old man from the State's Far North was charged with serious criminal trespass, theft and hindering police. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court.
