Kimba or Hawker will most likely host the national radioactive waste facility after another potential site has been dismissed.
The Woomera Protected Area was put forward last year but has been dismissed as a possible site for the waste facility.
The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science are conducting ongoing operations at the site and described a nuclear waste facility as an “incompatible land use.”
CSIRO currently store 10,000 drums of low and intermediate level waste at the site, with Defence also storing intermediate level waste at another location in the area.
The selection process is currently delayed to decide which town will host the potential facility.
The Federal Court is set to hear the Barngarla Determination Aboriginal Corporation case against the District Council of Kimba later this month.
