Leigh Creek Energy has announced plans for fertiliser production to be the commercial pathway for its Leigh Creek Energy project in South Australia.
LCK will use the syngas produced through in-situ gasification to make fertiliser products rather than electricity or natural gas.
The company has confirmed that fertiliser was the most financially attractive option to utilise the Leigh Creek coalfields’ gas resources.
Syngas produced at the former coalfield site can be refined into ammonia, which is used in fertiliser and industrial explosives.
Last month the company announced the maiden production of synthesis gas from its pre-commercial demonstration at the Leigh Creek coalfields.
The demonstration is a trial for a potential commercial ISG facility.
