The Whyalla Council has held a meeting with over 20 building contractors and suppliers at the site of the new jetty to stress the importance of using local content in construction.
Council CEO Chris Cowley stressed the importance of local labour and materials in any tender put forward to build the jetty.
He says the jetty is a symbol of the transformation of Whyalla and serious regard must be given to the possibility of the jetty being 100% local labour and materials.
Potential builders and suppliers have been given a project timeline with a commencement of work target of Monday, February 4, 2019.
The jetty project is fully funded with the assistance of $1m from the State Government and a commitment by GFG Alliance to donate steel for the structure.
