Additional fire-fighting aerial water bombers will be stationed in the Mid North ahead of this year’s bushfire season after lobbying from Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council.
State Emergency Services Minister Corey Wingard MP says an additional $2.3 million a year will be allocated to the CFS over the next four years, starting this fire season.
This funding will provide a new base in the Mid North, where planes will be placed on standby to respond to fires in the region and nearby areas.
Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council Mayor Allan Aughey OAM says the move is reassuring that the government responded to the potentially dangerous effect of bushfires on the wine region.
He says it is also reassuring to have aerial support nearby in the event of bushfires which may threaten the whole Mid North region.
