A global solar thermal company is set to boost the local economy after teaming up with a local manufacturer to produce more than 12,800 tracking mirrors for a solar project near Port Augusta.
Solar Reserve has entered into agreements with Heliostat SA to build the mirrors for the 150MW Aurora Solar Energy Project.
The project will utilise technology initially developed in South Australia, with Heliostat SA saying the deal could create up to 200 jobs.
The Aurora Solar Energy Project located north of Port Augusta will incorporate eight hours of storage, allowing it to operate like a conventional coal or gas power station.
The entire project is expected to create another 650 full-time construction jobs on site, and more than 4000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
