Port Broughton is installing two electric vehicle charging stations from Tesla before the end of the year in a bid to draw more people to the town.

The town falls within a 200km radius of Adelaide making it an ideal location for electric cars to recharge.

The Barunga West Council negotiated with Tesla to receive two free charging stations and will only pay the $2,500 installation bill.

They will also allow people to charge their vehicles for free.

There are approximately 2,000 electric vehicles in the state that can travel 200 to 300kms on a single charge.

The Northern Areas Council have also received charging stations as a part of their Office Battery Project and they are waiting on installation.

There are also two more Tesla charging ports in Clare.
